K-9 School & Library: We’ve partnered with local teachers to provide materials and training on environmental, STEM, and health topics. We also donate Spanish language children’s books.

Health Clinic: We’ve raised funds to expand the local Health Clinic so that the community can qualify for the placement of a doctor. We have also connected local staff with volunteer medical experts and supplies.

Reforestation & Organic Farming: We lead on organic farming principles, including using coffee cherry pulp, manure, and other natural composted materials, along with non-chemical herbicides to protect our leaves from crop rust and other diseases. We have also kicked off a project to begin planting shade trees that will promote biodiversity.

Compostable Bags: We put our specialty coffee into bags that are made from materials that aren’t petroleum based and that compost, in an effort to minimize waste. You can read more about the cool science behind our compostable bags at Biotre and Elevate.

Ecotourism: From the beginning, we’ve supported Amigos del Bosque Nublado, or Friends of the Cloud Forest, a local nonprofit that organizes guides, builds trails, infrastructure and ultimately enables diversified income streams that support the protection of local natural areas.

In addition to supporting great projects, our business also pays fair wages and generates direct local economic benefits, supporting one full-time staff, four seasonal staff, and six small businesses along our supply chain.
